Yahoo! Connected TV and Partners Enhance TV Watching

At CES 2013 this week, Yahoo! Connected TV was showing off our work with content partners to enhance one of our biggest daily habits: watching TV. To make TV viewing more engaging, Yahoo! Broadcast Interactivity uses Soundprint™ technology to detect what a TV viewer is watching, and then delivers real-time Internet content to complement the TV show or advertisement.  During CES, we highlighted some of the entertainment and sports content available from our partners including videos, photos, sports stats, show trivia, voting, shopping, game show play, and more.

TV show fans will be delighted with Showtime® Shameless behind the scenes videos, Nat Geo Wild® Big Cat Week images, fun facts, and merchandise discounts, and engaging content for the popular Wheel of Fortune® game show.  Bravo® fans can participate in live polls and test their TV show knowledge with the trivia challenge.  On HSN®, home shoppers can purchase an item highlighted on the show and take advantage of specials of the day.

Beyond these cool entertainment experiences, some of the most popular TV apps are for sports fans. Showtime Sports® delivers in-depth fighter profiles, videos, and polls for Showtime CHAMPIONSHIP Boxing®. The Yahoo! Sports TV app provides the ultimate football game watching experience, including real-time football stats, scores, news, and videos right on your TV.

We’re also working with advertisers like Verizon Mobile® to bring you enhanced commercials so you can access special offers, coupons or download apps between shows.

New Yahoo! Study Reveals TV’s Future is Online

Right this very moment, consumers are watching TV content online. They are also watching online content on their TVs. The convergence of TV and Internet is here, and this creates a clear opportunity for advertisers.

To help make sense of this new landscape for brands and agencies, our Yahoo! recently partnered with Ipsos OTX MediaCT, surveying DSL-connected households in the U.S. The study focused on gauging consumer usage of Internet-connected TV devices, as well as attitudes around advertising on Yahoo!’s Connected TV product. Yahoo! And Samsung expanded availability of Yahoo! Connected TV to 26 new European Countries

Yahoo! and Samsung have announced an extended partnership to deliver Yahoo! Connected TV in 26 new countries across Europe, bringing Yahoo! Connected TV on Samsung TVs to 39 countries worldwide.  Yahoo! Connected TV is currently in use in 135 countries on approximately 4 million devices. Today’s news builds on the partnership that Yahoo! and Samsung first announced in January 2009.
